Derek Hoare, UK: CBT - let's change your mind about tinnitus.
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is an inclusive term for many psychological treatments. CBT for tinnitus aims primarily to reduce the impact of tinnitus on quality of life, rather than directly change the perceived loudness. In this seminar I will provide an overview of what CBT for tinnitus involves, the current evidence base, and clinical guideline recommendations. I will also describe two CBT-based interventions we have developed; an online self-help programme, and a manualised treatment designed to be delivered by audiologists.
Martin Schecklmann, Germany: How to counsel the tinnitus brain - practical considerations.
Tinnitus counseling should be the fundamental basis of each tinnitus consultation and treatment. The main message for handlers and patients is to consider the role of the brain in tinnitus etiology and decompensation. In his talk Martin Schecklmann shed light on some aspect of practical issues in tinnitus counseling with the idea that everybody (health care provider, patient, researcher) will be provided with conrete hints.
